About
Then I bought a few houses of my own, and found out how differently the same job gets done in this industry.
High stakes service operations. Complex technical diagnostics. And every day of it spent between customers, staff and suppliers who all needed the same thing to happen at the same time.
A customer who does not understand the technical detail and should not have to. Three or four other people who all need to be somewhere. A deadline nobody is moving. Somebody has to sit in the middle of that and make sure nothing drops.
What I got good at was navigating the difficult ones and keeping everybody aligned under pressure.
I have bought property a few times, and worked with several different mortgage brokers along the way. The gap between them was not small.
With one, I always knew where things stood. With others, I did not hear anything for a week, then found out about a problem days before closing that somebody had known about for a while. I would ask a question, not really follow the answer, and feel too stupid to ask again.
Same transaction. Same paperwork. Completely different experience, and it came down entirely to how the person ran it.
That is what made this a career worth moving into rather than just a job. I already knew how to run something complicated on a deadline. What I wanted was to do it to a standard I had mostly not been given myself.
That is the same philosophy I bring to mortgage brokering, which is exactly why I have got the team behind me at BRX Mortgage.
BRX runs an underwriting coaching and compliance review on my files before they go to a lender. Somebody who has seen thousands of these looks at mine and tells me what is missing. You get the benefit of that without paying for it.
One rule I do not break: I would rather tell you I need to go and check something than guess in front of you.
If you send me a client, you are handing me a relationship you built. I treat it that way.
My goal is to be the person you hand the difficult one to. The self-employed buyer, the acreage with a well, the file that has already been turned down somewhere else.
Nothing to fill in first, and no credit check to book. Bring whatever questions you have got.
